Original Midge is a linux OpenWRT-like mini-distribution for ADM5120 based routers,
such as Edimax BR-6104K.
In 2008 Midge (new brand name is FlyRouter) also support Realtek
RTL865xB SOC and in 2009 also support Broadcom
BCM6345 SOC.
It includes basic tools such as sh, ssh, inetd, syslogd, telnet, netcat, tftp, wget, udhcpd, vi, etc.
Also Midge uses ipkg package manager, which can be used for installing new software.
Midge use tmpfs root filesystem. It has big (1280k) initial rom filesystem, and small (256k) data partition.

ADM5120 routers has a serial/console port. On the PCB of the router there is a 8 pin connector called jp2.
Here are the pins located for a serial console port (115 kBaud, 8 databits, no parity, 1 stopbit).

Picocom is the terminal programm under linux, similar to hyperterm under Windows.
On Debian based systems install picocom and the also nessesary xmodem transfer program as root with:
apt-get install picocom apt-get install lrzsz
Start picocom as root on command line with an configuration name as argument.
picocom --sx --b 115200 /dev/ttyS0
After you have pressed a in the original or 1 in the Extended bootloader press Ctrl-A and then S for send firmware. Then the file select dialog string should appear. You should already be in the directory you have entered during the picocom setup desribed above. Seleting the firmware file should start the upload.
If the xmodem transfer to the bootloader won't work you are not alone with this. There is no general solution, but try the following:
